I then completed a Master of Science in Public Health and Nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MSc, 2001). I attended medical school at Trinity College Dublin (MB ChB, 2007). For my residency training, I completed a dual residency in both General Pediatrics (FRCPC 2013) and Pediatric Neurology (FRCPC 2015) at the University of British Columbia.
As a pediatric neurologist, my focus is on community general neurology with a special interest in pediatric headache disorders. My clinic is dedicated to making a clear diagnosis, giving patients an understanding of their disorder, and ensuring that they have the right tools needed to manage their condition. My training in both pediatrics and neurology is very complimentary to my care of patients. I am passionate about public health, raising awareness, and providing education to the community for the care of pediatric headache and general neurology disorders in infants, children, and adolescence. I also work part time as a general pediatrician in newborn care at St. Paul’s Hospital.
I live in Vancouver with my 4 children and husband. Outside of work, we love to keep active and spend time in nature.

I was born in the beautiful city of Cape Town,South Africa where I obtained by medical degree from the University of Cape Town.I then went on to complete 6 months as a senior house officer at the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town working in both in and outpatient settings.Thereafter, together with my husband, I travelled to Wynyard, Saskatchewan where I practised as a family physician. This allowed me to become familiar with the Canadian medical system.Wynyard's weather proved to be by far the coldest that I have ever encountered yet at the same time I experienced some of the warmest hospitality! I then headed west to the University of British Columbia where I completed my paediatric residency.Over the next several years I spent time doing a combination of office and hospital-based paediatrics working on the Clinical Teaching Unit at BC Children's Hospital and doing newborn care at BC Women's Hospital. Whilst working at these hospitals I had the fortune of meeting wonderful patients and teaching incredible residents, many of whom are now my colleagues today.
I am currently doing community paediatrics where I get to see a wide variety of general paediatric issues. I am exceedingly lucky to be part of my patient's medical journeys and to be able to provide them and their families with the support and guidance that they need. Each patient brings a unique set of concerns and challenges pushing me to become a better doctor every day.
When not working in the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 wonderful children, travelling, exercising, enjoying the outdoors and experiencing Vancouver's varied cuisine!

I started at City Pediatrics in 2002. As I was building up my practice, I worked part-time as a clinical assistant in the Cardiac Surgery Step-Down Unit for a few years. For over 15 years, I worked on the inpatient medical wards at BC Children’s Hospital as part of the Clinical Teaching Unit. Since I started practice, I have had an interest in newborn care and have been on staff in the caseroom and nursery at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital for over 20 years.
I have been helping to care for pediatric patients through the Sheway Clinic, in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for the last 20 years. I provided outreach services to the communities of Bella Coola for 15 years and Mount Currie for 4 years.
I enjoy teaching pediatric and family medicine residents, and medical students at the hospital. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Pediatrics. I have been the recipient of awards for Family Centered Care and Community Pediatrician of the Year from the UBC Department of the Pediatrics. I was a member of the Pediatric Residency Training Committee for over 10 years and was Assistant Program Director for the Pediatric Residents for one year.
I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband who has helped me raise our teenaged son and daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy playing soccer, hiking, cooking, travelling, and watching my kids play soccer and hockey.
I learn a lot from my patients and families and am grateful to be part of their journey. I love seeing the adorable babies, laughing at kids’ funny jokes and comments, and measuring how much taller my teenaged patients are compared to me!
